EARLY HISTORY OF FURNITURE DESIGN.
Gradual development of any civilization inevitably leads to the fact that its representatives begin lack a sense of comfort. Scientists repeatedly noticed the historical commonness of any people - as soon as the economy starts to master the manufacturing technologies, there immediately appears a surplus of products and then furniture as an interior product created for convenience.

Construction of houses, resettlement of peoples across the territories inevitably led to the entry of professions. One of the representatives of craftsmen of early stage of the development of mankind became a furniture maker - a man who created a cosiness in dwellings, arranged the interior. The first copies of chairs and tables can not be seen in museums. They were made of wood, a material which can not live in history for a long time. At the disposal of historians there are only images of furniture and household utensils, preserved in the form of various frescoes, painting utensils, objects of painting, etc.
Egyptian fresco of the Ptolemaic era
Tombs of Egyptian rulers became a real treasure for scientists, with tombs of pharaohs they often found artsy thrones, intended for rulers in the afterlife. Unfortunately, they have little in common with the furniture that was in the houses of ordinary residents.
The era of European empires has left a serious mark in the history of furniture design. Period approx. 300 BC. - approx. 450 is the time of serious reforms, when furniture from a utilitarian subject becomes a symbol. Justice, for example, is carried out in courts furnished with appropriate attributes, chairs and tables of judges, stands for performances, etc. There is public furniture - benches, tables applied for a dozen or so people gathered in groups.
Public Court
The Romanesque style, which came to replace the Byzantine, was one of the first to spread on almost the entire territory of the former Roman Empire. For the sake of functionality, beauty was sacrificed, thus the pieces of furniture were heavy and cumbersome, sometimes monumental. There was a little luxury at that time as the vassals of the feudal lords needed practicality.
The wardrobes were made of roughly chopped boards, sofas and armchairs were aimed at maximum simplicity. There was no upholstery, instead of it the furniture was painted or polished with chalk. As for the decorative elements, we can recall the metal lining made in the smithy. They were often used for upholstering the chests, corners of chairs and tables. Wooden carving appeared in the end of this period, at the same time the iron elements (hinges and fittings) began to decrease with the development of the blacksmith's craft.
Interior of the era of the late Roman period.
Form of furniture of the early period is simple. The rudiments of beauty appeared in the Byzantine period were lost in history after the collapse of empires. They were replaced by their massive structures, retaking the level of development to the Etruscan period, when functionality and practicality were at the forefront of the manufacturing process. They, of course, are not devoid of charm of history, and are perceived by us as transmitting the spirit and atmosphere of their era.
